MAUI DRIVER GUIDE
How to choose a body shop on Maui
Start with fit, then compare the details. A useful shop conversation covers your vehicle, the work being considered, and how the next steps will happen.
This is a checklist for talking with independent repair shops—not a ranking or an endorsement. Maui Auto Body Shop is a repair-connection service, not a repair facility. We do not determine repair methods or vehicle safety.
1. Ask whether the shop takes your type of work
Describe what happened and identify the vehicle’s year, make, and model. You do not need to diagnose the damage or decide whether a panel should be repaired or replaced.
- “Do you take body or paint work for this vehicle?”
- “Can you inspect this kind of damage, or should I contact a different specialist?”
- “What information do you need before offering an inspection appointment?”
A shop that suits one request may not suit another. Ask directly rather than treating a familiar name, photograph, or online listing as confirmation that it can take your job.
2. Compare the work described, not just the total
Ask for a written estimate. When comparing estimates, check that they describe the same work and clarify parts, labor, and other charges. Ask how the shop will contact you for authorization if additional work is proposed. For general consumer guidance on estimates and repair warranties, see the FTC’s Auto Repair Basics.
Useful questions to bring to the conversation:
- “What is included, and what has not yet been assessed?”
- “Is there a charge for the inspection or preparing the estimate?”
- “What would cause this estimate to change?”
- “What written warranty, if any, applies to this work?”
Keep a copy of the estimate and your agreed scope. An initial photo review through our service is not a binding estimate or an inspection.
3. Separate the inspection date from the repair schedule
An available inspection appointment is not the same as an agreed repair start or completion date. Ask the shop to explain each step before you arrange time off or transportation.
For a Maui request, tell the shop where you are starting from—such as Kahului, Wailuku, Kīhei, or West Maui—and which locations you can reasonably reach. Those are planning details, not a claim that we have a partner or available appointment in each area.
- “When can you inspect the vehicle?”
- “When would you expect to confirm the repair schedule?”
- “Should I keep the vehicle until the work is ready to begin?”
- “Who will update me if the plan changes?”
A short checklist for your first call
Have your vehicle details, a short description, your location, and your preferred timing ready. Then use this opening:
“I’m looking for an inspection for my vehicle after body damage. Do you take this type of work, what should I bring, and what are the next steps before I authorize repairs?”
Before ending the call, confirm the appointment location, any inspection fee, the best contact person, and anything the shop wants you to send in advance. If insurance is involved, ask your insurer about your coverage and claim process; our service cannot determine those for you.
Want help organizing your request?
Our repair-request guide explains the details and photos to gather. You can submit one guided request for human review while we look for a suitable independent shop. A match is not guaranteed; each shop decides whether to accept the work.
